The Oklahoma State University Music Education program prepares candidates to flourish in pursuit of careers as music educators. Once accepted by audition into the OSU Greenwood School of Music (GSM), you may choose to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree with Vocal or Instrumental Certification. The Oklahoma K-12 teaching license is granted after completion of both the degree and the required teacher certification exams. A Music Education degree from OSU opens a wide variety of employment options, as illustrated by a 100% employment rate of our graduates. OSU Music Education graduates continue on to become leaders as public school teachers and university instructors all over the country.

One of the OSU Greenwood School of Music’s greatest resources is its diverse and vibrant faculty. Our students enjoy the benefits of music educators who bring years of experience and expertise in teaching and performing to the process of nurturing your musical development.  Our program is built on the tenet that “the best way to learn to teach is by teaching.” Through our unique Rehearsal Practicum courses, You will have multiple hands-on opportunities to work with developing music students of various ages prior to your student teaching experience. In addition to your in-class experiences, you will be part of our nationally-recognized, award-winning collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for professional development beyond the classroom.

Music Education majors at OSU have access to participate in many award-winning large and small ensembles, including choral, orchestral, symphonic and concert bands, vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles, and opera. Beginning fall 2019, you will enjoy performing in and attending events at our brand new, state-of-the-art performing facility, the McKnight Center, hailed as The premier performing arts venue in this area of the country. The 2019-20 Season includes the New York Philharmonic, Project Trio, Sarah Coburn, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Orchestra.
